Your Questions, Answered

  • Which is better - blacktop or concrete?

While concrete is a stronger material, it is considerably more expensive to install and maintain. Blacktop can be added on to easily at any time and even replaced much easier in most circumstances. With a smooth surface during the cold and icy winters we have, you'll find it easier to shovel and snow blow blacktop due to no seams.

  • How can I make sure my new blacktop Lasts?

Loewer Paving provides each customer with a specialized list of steps to take after completion to keep the blacktop in great shape as long as possible. With the type of blacktop work being done varying from time to time, it's best to follow the tips written directly from the owner of Loewer Paving himself.

  • Do you offer commercial as well as residential paving?

Yes! Loewer Paving does both forms of contracting. Visit our commercial or residential tabs up above to get more information.

  • How do potholes form and how can they be prevented?

Potholes form from the freezing and thawing of water on, under, and in the blacktop. As water freezes, it expands, taking up more space than before. This loosens the bond the asphalt has and once it thaws the blacktop can pop out.
To prevent this from happening, keep water off of the driveway and if there are cracks in the asphalt for water to get into, make sure to repair them properly or give us a call to repair it properly.

  • Can asphalt be recycled?

Yes asphalt can and is recycled! Millings are the most common way you will see it done visually. The local blacktop plants take the old and broken blacktop and use it in base material for driveways as well as in some of their blacktop mixes.

  • How long should I stay off new asphalt?

You'll be able to walk on the asphalt later that day after it is completed! As far as driving and parking on it, we recommend a few days at least while some jobs we recommend longer. Our crew will give you a specific timeline after the completion of each job!

  • What type of maintenance does asphalt require?

Besides keeping the blacktop clean of debris and loose materials, you'll want to make sure to keep your edges of the blacktop clean too. That means possibly weed whacking the edges to prevent grass growth over the blacktop edges themselves. Sealing your driveway is also very important. You want to seal it every couple years to keep the blacktop strong and looking fresh

  • What is the best time to perform asphalt repairs?

There is no time like the present! When you see the need for a repair, give us a call! Even if it's in the winter while blacktop work cannot be done, we will at least get you ready to roll for once the weather breaks or even see if we can assist using a temporary repair in the winter!
