Which is better – blacktop paving or concrete?
Here in the
Buffalo, NY and
Cheektowaga, NY area, we have to say that blacktop paving is better. The primary reason is the climate. Blacktop stands up better to cold weather than concrete does, and since it heats up in the sun, it can make shoveling snow a little easier. Blacktop is also cheaper to install and easier to repair and maintain.

- When the asphalt is first poured, keep people, vehicles, and pets off it for at least the first 24 hours. If it would be wiser to stay off it for a longer period of time, we’ll tell you.

Why should I choose asphalt paving over other methods?
Asphalt is a petroleum-based product used for driveways, roads, walking paths, and any project that requires a smooth surface for foot traffic or motorized vehicles. It is flexible and gives during the harsher weather conditions that we experience in East Amherst, Williamsville, NY, and the surrounding areas. It is also inexpensive to maintain and is aesthetically pleasing.
How long should I stay off new asphalt?
Generally speaking, you should stay off your new asphalt surface for at least 24 hours. In warmer weather, we recommend staying off the fresh asphalt for a couple of days to allow the surface to cool and cure.
What type of maintenance does asphalt require?
Asphalt is a great long-term investment - especially when it’s properly maintained. Annual preventative maintenance, such as crack filling, is one of the best ways to ensure an asphalt driveway or parking lot lasts as long as possible. It is also important to repair potholes and cracks quickly after they begin forming to prevent them from spreading and creating bigger problems.
When is the best time to perform asphalt repair?
Asphalt repairs can be performed year-round, provided we have dry conditions and temperatures greater than 50 degrees. In areas around WNY such as
Orchard Park,
Clarence, and
Newstead, NY, March to November are typically the most ideal months for asphalt repair. Any issues with your asphalt driveway or parking lot should be addressed prior to winter to avoid water penetrating and freezing within your pavement system.
